A better kind of upsell

Useful choices, not checkout clutter.

The strongest extra solves a real part of the stay. Make the purpose, unit and price obvious, then let the guest decide without disguising a mandatory fee.
Relevant
Connect the offer to the accommodation, guest or practical needs of the stay.
Transparent
Name the item, pricing unit and total clearly before payment.
Optional
Avoid preselected extras and keep unavoidable charges in the base price or mandatory fee breakdown.
Three pricing units

Charge in the way the extra is actually used.

A per-booking hamper, nightly pet fee and itemised firewood order behave differently. Keydesk keeps that pricing logic explicit.
01
Per booking
Welcome hamper · £32

One charge for the whole reservation, however many nights the guest stays.

02
Per night
Pet fee · £6 nightly

The quantity follows the length of stay, keeping the displayed calculation clear.

03
Per item
Firewood · £8 each

Guests choose the quantity they need and the booking total reflects it.

The guest journey

One considered path from stay to payment.

Extras sit inside the booking journey, so the guest can review the complete price instead of completing another form or waiting for the office.

  1. 01

    Choose the stay

Dates, accommodation, party and base price establish the booking.

  2. 02

    See useful options

Configured extras appear as part of the booking journey, not as a separate enquiry.

  3. 03

    Select and review

The guest chooses an option or quantity and sees the price before proceeding.

  4. 04

    Pay once

The stay and extras reach one booking total before the deposit or full payment.

Before an extra goes live

Make fulfilment as clear as the price.

The booking system can carry the selection and money. The operation still needs an owner, a reliable handoff and an honest description.

Set the timing
Explain when the option is delivered and any genuine cut-off the team uses.
Describe the charge
Make quantity, duration and the guest’s complete price easy to understand.

Questions about add-ons

Booking extras and upsells FAQ

What are booking extras and upsells?

Booking extras are optional products or services sold alongside the stay, such as firewood, a welcome hamper, a pet fee, a cot or late checkout. An upsell encourages a guest to improve or personalise the booking; the offer should remain clear, relevant and genuinely optional.

How can extras be priced in Keydesk?

Keydesk supports extras priced per booking, per night or per item. The right unit depends on what is being sold: a welcome hamper may be per booking, a pet fee may be per night and firewood may be sold by quantity.

Can guests add extras during online checkout?

Yes. Extras can be offered in the Keydesk Direct booking journey so guests can add relevant options before payment. The booking total updates to include their selections.

Can staff add extras when taking a booking?

Yes. Booking Mode takes staff through the stay, customer, extras and payment with live pricing, so telephone and booking-office reservations can use the same configured options.

Are extras included in the deposit or balance?

Extras form part of the booking and payment position. Guests can pay the configured deposit or full amount through Stripe, and Keydesk keeps the paid amount and outstanding balance with the reservation.

Can extras be restricted by accommodation type or availability?

The page examples are illustrative. Confirm the applicability, quantity and availability controls needed for your operation during setup rather than assuming every fulfilment rule is automatic.

Can guests buy more extras after booking?

Keydesk currently claims extras during guest checkout and staff-entered Booking Mode. Confirm the post-booking amendment workflow needed by your operation during early access before relying on guest self-service after confirmation.

Do extras work on OTA bookings?

Keydesk does not yet have live OTA or marketplace connections. Extras currently sit within direct website and staff-entered booking workflows, where the park controls the offer and guest journey.
